This is a low-budget video tribute to Herb Gray as a person and a parliamentarian on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of his being elected a Member of Parliament. Included are messages of congratulations from Speaker John Fraser, Paul Martin Sr., John Turner and Jean Chrétien. There are also still photographs and video footage, including a number of clips from video proceedings of the House of Commons. The House of Commons footage includes a comment by John Turner when Herb Gray was named Leader of the Opposition. Also shown are newspaper clippings related to his career, footage of his office and the many framed caricatures hanging there. There is a small amount of black-and-white archival film footage, including Gray shown with Pierre Trudeau. His wife Sharon Sholzberg-Gray talks about the value he places on his family life and the role she plays in his political career. There are some photographs of the Gray family. There is some voiceover narration by Senator Royce Frith and excerpts from various music recordings. His interest in music is also mentioned. <17mn 44s>

1. Opening title credits this to Hartley Productions and House of Commons Broadcasting Service (many of the credits are tongue-in-cheek). ~2. This tribute video was directed, produced and written by Bruce Hartley. ~3. The closing credits also credit Susan Finn, Jean Leduc and Susan Trenholm as members of the crew. ~4. The video of Paul Martin Sr. is of very poor technical quality, probably a dub of a dub.~5. Copyright owner not identified.~6. Rights owners of the archival footage used in this video not identified.
