Description:

This radio program features the following performances: The Stratford Festival Choir, directed by Elmer Iseler, music director of Park Memorial Collegiate in Toronto, sings approximately 20 seconds of a Mass by Dr. Healey Willan, the Rachmaninoff setting for Ave Maria, the William Bird Motet Ecc dies and Healey Willan's Rise Up My Love. Suzanne Bloch plays an Elizabethan lute with 19 strings. She introduces her instruments and the pieces she plays in English and French, including two French songs, English, German and two Shakespeare songs. The chorus concludes with All Creatures are Now Merry Minded by John Beunet, Oh Eyes of My Beloved by Orlando di Lasso and Spring Return by Luca Marenzio. At the end of side 3 of the discs, in the interval after Suzanne Bloch, Douglas Campbell talks about the problems and meanings of staging L'Histoire du soldat at the Stratford Festival. <1h>
