The series consists of records created and accumulated by Yalden during his term as Chief Commissioner of the Canadian Human Rights Commission. The records provides excellent documentation of his role and responsibilities as Commissioner and cover a diverse range of issues including multiculturalism, aboriginal peoples, employment equity, broadcasting rights, War Veterans allowances, pensions, health, ethics, bilingualism, economics, politics, minorities, child labour, sexual orientation, etc. The series is arranged by subject and in chronological order within.

The series contains meetings and correspondence with ministers, parliamentarians, officials and others, 1987-1996; records of official meetings of the Canadian Human Rights Commission with officials of various countries to exchange information regarding human rights issues, their programs, mandates and roles, operations, legislations, administrative practices, statistics, financial support, complaints and concerns, 1989-1998. Speeches given by Yalden are arranged in five sets and a list of titles is found in the first file of each set, 1987-1996. Yalden's published articles in newspapers and periodicals,1989-1993; a list of titles with the names of the journals and newspapers is found in the file.

The series includes lists of items for discussion, agendas, documentation, correspondence, memoranda, notes and reports, programmes, typescript texts, magazine and newspaper clippings, newsletters, etc.
