Whaley, Royce & Co Ltd : The Toronto firm of Whaley, Royce & Co., musical instrument manufacturers and dealers, opened for business in 1888 thanks to the initiative of Orangeville, Ontario, bandleader Eri [sic] Whaley and Toronto music dealership employee George C. Royce. The firm also published and sold music from 1955 until 1969 when the publishing division was destroyed by fire. After the fire, Ted Hough, a vice-president of the firm, set up his own music store, Algord Music Ltd., and continued to reprint the firm's former publications on demand. The firm's publications catalogue contained works by Gena Branscombe, Herbert L. Clarke, Clarence Lucas, Leo Smith and A. S. Vogt, as well as the first edition of "O Canada", based on a text by T. B. Richardson (1906). Whaley, Royce & Co. Ltd. ceased operations in 1976.
