Fonds consists of two portraits of A.C. Jackson, one by Edwin Holgate, ca. 1941 and one by Geneva A. Jackson Baird, 1950.

Textual records consist of 36 journals written by HAC Jackson, recording his interest in mycology and ornithology as well as his general observations on nature, weather and daily family events. Some journals contain rough sketches of mushrooms and birds observed, newspaper clippings and a few photo snapshots. Material dates from 1930 to 1961.

Jackson, Henry Alexander Carmichael, 1877-1961 : Jackson was born in Montreal, where he spent most of his life. He studied art at the Monument National and visited the art museums of Europe with his brother A.Y. Jackson in 1905. He became a commercial artist, working with various lithography firms in Montreal. In 1909 he married Coralie Adair Jackson (1885-1982). They had three daughters: Naomi, Geneva and Constance. Jackson retired from his work as a commercial artist in 1941, but pursued an enduring interest in ornithology and in mycology at the family summer home, Patley, at St. Aubert (near Saint-Jean-de-Port-Joli) and later in Manotick, where he and his wife moved in 1957. He earned a reputation as an amateur collector of ability and a producer of very fine mushroom paintings, which were used to illustrate René Pomerleau's Mushrooms of Eastern Canada and the United States (1951). Jackson died in 1961. An exhibition of his mushroom paintings was mounted by the National Gallery of Canada in 1977, followed by the book Mr. Jackson's Mushrooms (1979). The National Gallery holds many of his works in its permanent collection.
