Robert, Guy, 1933-2000 : Poète, critique littéraire et critique d'art, Guy Robert est né à Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, au Québec, en 1933. Il est décédé le 7 novembre 2000 à Montréal. Il a fait des études classiques à Montréal et obtenu une maîtrise en littérature de l'Université de Montréal, en 1962, pour sa thèse portant sur l'oeuvre d'Anne Hébert, plus tard publiée sous le titre "La Poétique du songe" (1962). En 1974, il a obtenu un doctorat en esthétique de l'Université de Paris. (Sa thèse a été publiée en 1984 sous le titre "Art et non finito".) Depuis 1960, il a enseigné dans plusieurs institutions, notamment au Collège Sainte-Marie, à l'École des beaux-arts, à l'Université de Montréal, à l'Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières et à la Carleton University. En tant que critique en littérature et en art et historien, il a publié plus de cinq cents articles dans des journaux et des périodiques, comme "La Barre du jour", "Vie des arts", "Maintenant", "Livres et auteurs québécois" et "Le Devoir", ainsi que des monographies sur des peinture ou des mouvements artistiques et a participé à plus de 500 émissions de radio et de télévision.
En 1964, il a fondé le Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, dont il a été le premier directeur et conservateur. Il a également été directeur du Symposium international de sculpture de Montréal en 1964 et de l'Exposition internationale de sculpture contemporaine à l'Expo 67. En 1968, il a fondé les Éditions du songe et, en 1975, Iconia. Ces deux maisons d'édition ont publié plusieurs livres d'artiste, dont plusieurs comprenaient des textes poétiques de Guy Robert.
Guy Robert remporté le grand prix littéraire de Montréal pour son livre "Jean-Paul Lemieux" (1968). Son "Aspects de la littérature québécoise" (1970), un recueil de ses essais, conférences et exposés radiophoniques, comprend une analyse à la fois sérieuse et humoristique du « sacre » dans le discours québécois. Depuis 1983, Robert a continué à publier des oeuvres portant sur la vie d'artistes : "Aux couleurs et saisons d'Armance Ricard" en 1983, "Domingue" (1985) sur Maurice Domingue, "Pinsonnault" (1987), "L'Oeuvre de Geneviève Deslauriers" (1988), "Bellefleur, ou La Ferveur à l'oeuvre" (1988), "Petit : Gaston Petit en mission itinérante dans l'art" (1990), "Garbs : Irma Roggenkamper Garbs, sa vie et son art" (1990), "DOH : visions, dimensions, messages" (1991), et "Dufour" (1995). Il rend hommage à 120 artistes québécois dans son "Cent vingt du cercle des artistes peintres du Québec" (1989) et dans son "Art et non finito : esthétique et dynamogénie du non fini" (1984); il analyse l'impact sur l'imagination d'oeuvres fragmentées et inachevées.
