All the events and people in his life are portrayed in his many plays. Origanally born in Montreal,. Ted became an ardent supporter of communist ideals and became a reporter for a communist newspaper in Montreal. His passion led him to Spain, where he worked for a brigade newspaper in the Spanish civil war. Allan returned to North America and settled in New York. He was amoung the long list of artists to be blacklisted in the 1950's, and so moved back to Canada and began to write for the CBC.
