On découvre cette seigneurie par les travaux de Zacharie Cloutier, maître-charpentier et de Robert Giffard, premier seigneur de Beauport. Robert Giffard était pionnier de cette forme d’organization du terre noble du roi. Le seigneurie est une implantation d’un régime de peuplement. C’est aussi une manière d’organiser un peuple qui est dispersé sur un grand territoire.
