McLennan and G.M. Shrum to liquify helium. Machinery used to achieve this are shown including a standard two stage Whitehead Air Compressor. Animated line drawings and titles offer a step by step explanation of the procedure: the helium's temperature is lowered by using liquid air and liquid hydrogen; eventually, liquid helium at a temperature of -272.1 degrees celsius is collected. An animation shows a "Thermometer of Important Relative Temperatures", highlighting the highest and lowest temperatures attained on earth. Within .9 degrees of absolute zero, liquid helium enables scientists to test and prove the Kinetic Theory of heat. <40mn>Language:Silent with English intertitlesOriginal number:3212~3213~3214~3215~3216~3217Notes:Detailed holdings information: -
