Series consists of records created and accumulated by the Canadian Government Exhibitions Centre and its predecessors. These records cover exhibitions from 1876 to 1970, as well as one exhibition from 1986 (Queen's Printer Centennial). Exhibition themes include: industrial, universal (world's fairs, world fairs, Columbian), intercolonial (Colonial and Indian), British Empire, agricultural, US state fairs, progress, women, and others. Cities include: London, Paris, Chicago, Antwerp, New York, Philadelphia, Brussels, Sydney (Australia), Buenos Aires, and others. The records include numbered and unnumbered general correspondence, letterbooks, visitors books, souvenir booklets, plans and design, preliminary studies, promotional brochures, posters, press clippings, awards given to and lists of Canadian participants. The files are organized by exhibition; for the numbered files, each successive exhibition was assigned a consecutive number.
Architectural, technical drawings, cartographic material: RG72M 77803-4 contains maps and site plans of various European exhibitions and trade fairs attended by Canadian government representatives. Also included are a few plans of the pavillions used by the Canadian government at these events, as well as plans of Canadian government travel bureau offices in Pittsburgh and Chicago. European fairs and exhibits attended were located in Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Barcelona, and Poznan (Poland). RG72M 78903-52 contains prints of architectural drawings for the Canadian Government Building and for exhibit showcases erected for the British Empire Exhibition held at Wembley Park, London, England in 1924. The drawings were prepared by A.W. Tolmie, Exhibition Commissioner and J. Oscar Turcotte, chief of the Designing and Decorating Division, Canadian Government Exhibition Branch, Dept. of Immigration and Colonization. RG72M 78903-52 consists of plans of exhibition areas, buildings and fixtures organized and set up by the Canadian Government Exhibition Commission in Europe and North America. Exhibitions include the International Hardware Trades Fair (London, 1967); Canadian Demonstrations Homes (United Kingdom, 1964); the Harlow Project (1966); Canada Today (1966); the Alaska Centennial Celebration (Fairbanks, 1967); the International Buildings Systems and Components Exhibit (London, 1966); the Barcelona International Sample Show (1967); the International Electrical Engineers Conference (New York City, 1967); and Reed House (London, 1967). RG72M 83403-12 consists of a selection of drawings focusing on the technical aspects of preparing and mounting major and minor exhibitions held in Canada, the United States, Europe, Brazil, South Africa and Japan. The majority of plans focus on the international expositions held in Brussels (1958) and Osaka (1970).
