AMS [in Maguire's handwriting] entitled "Notes pour accompagner la demande de revoquer la permission accordée par Rome à Mons Roux d'aliéner les biens de St Sulpice de Montréal," in six points. The writers opposed Roux's preliminary accord [see C 189], signed after his unauthorized trip to Europe [of 1826-7]. They make reference to Plessis's M ("18") to the Court of St. James's [recte to Bathurst, of 20 August 1819; see SOCG 551]; to the current [a]bp. of Québec [Panet]'s letter to the addressee, dated 27 May 1829 [see C 193], recently delivered; to the petition ("D") to George IV signed by the bp. of Québec, the bp. of Telmissus [Lartigue], the bp. of Fussala [Signay], and the almost all the clergy [of Lower Canada, dated December 1828; see SOCG 552]; to a recent decision [before 1 December 1829] of the Legislative Council [of Lower Canada;

see C 214]; to a M ("Z") on the Montréal Seminary's loyalty towards the British government that would follow such an accord; to Dalhousie's letter ("7") [to Comte, of 30 January 1827; see SOCG 556]; to the bp. of Telmissus's letter to Roux [of 29 September] and Roux's answer [of 30 September 1828] ("15") [see C 184]; to the opinion [of 18 August 1819] of 12 lawyers of Paris ("O") [see C 209]; to Roux's letter to the Under-Secretary [for War and the Colonies, Horton, of 30 October 1827] ("2" [recte "8"], "M") [see C 173]. If the accord is approved, other Catholic institutions might be deprived of their goods, as it happened to the Jesuits in the past, and the revenues will finance Protestant universities and educational institutions.
