C. [At the audience granted to the writer on 19 July 1829], Pius VIII approved the decision made by PF [in the CG of 13 July 1829; see Acta 188] that a new bishopric be erected, with jurisdiction over Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Iles-de-la-Madeleine, whose see be located in Charlottetown. Both the abp. of Québec [Panet] and [A.B.] MacEachern were informed that the latter had been appointed bp. of Charlottetown [see Lettere 328-329]. Furthermore, Pius VIII ordered that Cape Breton [Island], so distant from Québec, be separated from the diocese of Québec and attached to the vicariate apostolic of Nova Scotia. The original decree [of 4 September 1829; see Varia 342] has been sent, on this day, to the abp. of Québec, and its certified C to the addressee.
