ALS. This is a PS to the writer's own letter of 25 August 1823 [see SOCG 355]. He maintains that the M of the five Montréal parish priests [see SOCG 358], a letter addressed to Liverpool [Jenkinson] and published in England, and Chaboillez's M [of August 1823; see SOCG 359] will all be used by Protestants against the Catholic church. The writer is in agreement with his coadjutor [Panet], so strongly supported by Chaboillez. He also explains that he did not publish the [apostolic] brief appointing Lartigue [bp. of Telmissus, of 1 February 1820; see Varia 324] over the district of Montréal because he is there styled abp., a matter that could offend the British government.
