Register [of LS.], S.d.S. to N.: A reply from the N. is awaited [see no. 355] concerning the bp. of Petraea [Laval] and the suppression of the conventual revenues of the abbey of Maubec and also the 1,000 "scudi" [see no. 32] for the erection of the church of Québec in New France. N. should tell Laval that promised sum would not be sufficient even when the grace is granted of obtaining the erection "by the secret way" but every effort will be made to obtain the erection in this manner and there is every hope of success [see no. 33 for the N.'s response to this portion of the present letter]. With regard to the establishment of canons for the church of Québec the N. is to tell Laval that this request can be pursued in a more leisurely fashion and hence perhaps with better results [see no. 34 for Laval's reaction].
