Extracts of two letters. The letter of 4 Sep. (sent via a ship going from Ragusa to Leghorn) deals with the Augustinian project of a convent in Wilmington; the Jesuits working at two new establishments in Albany and Fort Stanwix; the two French missionaries sent during the past year to the Wabash [river] and "Honnois" Indians, who report on their religious fervour. According to the writer, the great number of immigrants (25,000 during the past year, 4,000 since May in one port alone) requires a bp. in each state. The letter of 8 Dec. asks for the re-establishment of the Society of Jesus and recalls that the bulls for the consecration of L. Neale have been awaited for 13 months already.
