Ross Eaman interviews Raymond Whitehouse, former CBC radio and television drama producer. Whitehouse discusses: his early life in Regina and Pentiction, B.C.; family background and his interest in showbusiness; writing plays in public school and being active in the drama club in Vancouver; his education at Victoria College in 1941; joining the Navy; his continuous work on stories during the war; encouragement from Ira Dilworth, then regional director of the CBC in B.C.; his attendance at the drama school at the University of Washington following the war; his work as a rewrite man in the Vancouver newsroom; his relationship with Doug Nixon who produced VANCOUVER THEATRE; his play "Give Me Your Hand"; his one year lectureship in the fine arts department of the University of Alberta; his return to the CBC through an offer by Ira Dilworth as a drama producer in 1948; his work in the United Kindgom Section of the International Service; his interest in finding appropriate dramatic vehicles for the reflection of Canadian life to audience in Britain; his cooperation with Elsie Park Gowan for the series THE BARLOWS OF BEAVER STREET about Canadian family living in a typical prairie town; program produced by Whitehouse; use of William Shatner and Christopher Plummer; being offered a 13 week drama series in 1949 called LISTENING ROOM ONLY; his development of the program; his insistence on the use of Canadian writing and acting talent; and his work on the anthology drama series VANCOUVER THEATRE which he inherited from Doug Nixon in 1950.~Whitehouse also comments on: his production of J.B. Priestley's JOHNSON OVER JORDAN; production of children's radio drama; his most remembered radio series DON GREY - MARINE INVESTIGATOR; his involvement in a television production in Vancouver in 1958; THREE'S A CROWD with Betty Phillips; TV children's show HIDDEN PAGES; PACIFIC STAGE with Philip Keeply; his promotion to executive producer through Doug Nixon, now program director for the network; his work on FIRST PERSON; JAKE AND THE KID; transfer from administration back to production with the position of Supervising Producer of Television Features; his promotion to Director of Television in B.C., 1965-1976; and his move to become Regional Talent Relations and Program Development Officer in 1976. <3h 24mn>
