Munroe Scott interviews singer and entertainer Jack Northmore. Northmore discusses: his childhood in Toronto; entering the air force in 1943; attending the University of Toronto where he met Norman Jewison, George McCowan, Ted Follows and Eric House; acting at the Red Barn Theatre in summer reviews with Barbara Hamilton; performing in a Mother Goose pantomime with comedians Johnny Wayne and Frank Shuster; appearing in the theatrical review "Spring Thaw" in 1951; attending an acting course at Sterndale Bennett's school; director Eric Christmas hiring him to work at the Jupiter Theatre with actors Lorne Greene, John Drainie and Bud Knapp; his experiences at the Stratford Festival; singing at the Old Mill in 1957 and 1958; singing lead with the Three Deuces; appearing on SHOWTIME with Shirley Harmer and Bob Goulet; joining the Billy Van Four and appearing on various CBC variety shows; auditioning for Bob Jarvis and Sid Wayne for a role on HOLIDAY RANCH; touring England with the Billy Van Four and appearing on THE JO STAFFORD SHOW and SUNDAY NIGHT AT THE PRINCE OF WALES; acting on Wayne and Shuster's television programs; appearing in regional theatre in Charlottetown, Winnipeg, Halifax and Calgary; his membership in various performer's unions including Equity, the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA), and the American Guild of Variety Artists (AGVA); appearing at the Kawartha Summer Theatre run by Dennis and Maggie Sweeting; being diagnosed with cancer; his roles in the films RUNNING and DROP DEAD MOTHER; why he has based his career in Canada; the role of the CBC; and his experiences with various agents.
