Heap, Dan, 1925- : Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Dan Heap started his political career as a Federal NDP candidate in 1968, but was defeated. In 1971, he ran unsuccessfully as an NDP candidate for the Ontario Legislature. He was elected alderman for the City of Toronto (1972-1981), and served on the Council of Metropolitan Toronto (1974-1978). He was first elected to the House of Commons for the NDP in the 1981 by-election in Trinity-Spadina. In 1983 he was named the NDP House Critic for Immigration, and became a member of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Labour, Employment and Immigration. He was re-elected in 1984 and 1988 and appointed the NDP critic for Immigration in 1983. He did not run in the 1993 election.
