Television public affairs program with host Frank Willis. This program takes an indepth look at the possibilities for survival in the event of a nuclear war. A short history of nuclear weaponry is presented with clips of atomic bomb testing at Alamogordo, New Mexico and scenes of destruction after the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Nuclear fallout is explained by Dr. Ralph E. Lapp, and Douglas Leiterman interviews a Washington D.C. couple who have installed a bomb shelter in their home. Canada's Civil Defence Policy is discussed by: Major General F.F. Worthington; Major General A.E. Wrinch; Vice Secretary of the Cabinet in Charge of Emergency Measures, Robert Bryce; Dr. Edward Massey of the Defence Research Board; Director of Federal Emergency Measures, R.B. Curry; and R.H. Wright of the British Columbia research council. Graphs and statistics illustrate possible Canadian target cities and an Aurora, Ontario couple explain the security of a bomb shelter. Prospects for survival, size and location of potential attacks, damaging effects of firestorms, and possible resulting birth defects are topics addressed by a panel of experts including: author Herman Kahn; physicist Edward Teller; Professor Allan Mung; author Norman Cousins; Governor Leo Hoegh; and Linus Pauling. Additional clips of an underground vault in the United States for the storage of corporate records and various fallout shelters.
