Custodial history:

This painting came to the Public Archives of Canada in 1941 from the Department of Mines and Resources. It was later accessioned in 1958 by the Pictures Division of the Archives.

Signatures and inscriptions note:

Inscription: in brushpoint and black ink, recto l.r.: SC [in monogram] KNAPP. [underlined] / [in brushpoint and blue oil] /18/1935; in pen and black ink on upper portion of canvas that would have been nailed to stretcher, verso, u.: To Major McKeand. with deep sincerity & appreciation for interest taken in my past wok.[sic] / Stanley C Knapp [partially underlined]; in brushpoint and green oil on lower portion of canvas that was at one time nailed to the stretcher, verso b.: DEPT / N.A. & NR file 20 - KNAPP, S.C
