See acc. no. 1991-265-207X., John Webber was the official artist for Captain James Cook's Third Voyage (1776-1780) from the South Seas to the West Coast of North America. This image appears in the companion book of plates to the second edition of the Journal by Captains James Cook and James King, A Voyage to the Pacific Ocean...., in three volumes [I and II by Cook, III by King], published in 1785 by William Strahan in New Street, Shoe Lane, and by Thomas Cadell in the Strand, London, England [and printed by H. Hughes]. This image is plate number 56., Depicts two caps: the cap is oval shaped, with a fringe of feathers or hair, and a tail of four feathers, the bottom cap is triangular shaped with patterns. Both hats have strings to go under the chin.
