View of what is now called Annapolis Royal, a port town on the S. side of the Annapolis R. In the right foreground there are structures built up against a log breakwater. In the distance there are hills with a few farmhouses. Attributed to Lady Falkland, whose husband was governor of Nova Scotia from 1840-46., Falkland is recorded travelling around the province with the Haliburton family in the Novascotian (Sept. 141, 1845) and in the New York Albion (Sept. 14, 1844). Augusta in the inscription would be Augusta Louise Neville Haliburton (1823-1821) who was also an amateur artist (artists file #705-2644), as was her sister Emma, who executed at least three of the works in the album (1990-207-86X, -106X, and -107X)., This work is part of a group with the same type of paper for the secondary support. The jagged left edges suggest that they were all removed from the same album, possibly one Lady Falkland kept during her stay in Nova Scotia. These include: 1990-207-73X, -81X, -90X, -99X, and 102X. All have Nova Scotian subject matter.
