Half-length portrait sketch of Nancy Lewis, a Micmac indian. Her head is completed in watercolour. The sketch is attributed to Lady Falkand who was in Halifax from 1840-46 while her husband was governor of Nova Scotia. Micmac indians were popular subjects with Lady Falkland. She executed several herself, and collected examples by McKie and Nutting., Nutting, Haliburton, and Falkland travelled around the province together, but it is not known whether McKie, the most accomplished, was part of this group., The oil painting 1990-207-76X and the sketch 1990-207-96X are considered portraits of Nancy Lewis by Lady Falkland on the basis of this work.
