A bronze medal commemorating the life of Louis IV (called Louis d'Outremer or Louis from Overseas), King of the Franks from 936-954. When his father, Charles the Simple, was deposed by his nobles, Robert I was set up as King of France, forcing Louis' mother to flee with him to the kingdom of her father in England (hence Louis' nickname). Robert I was succeeded by his son-in-law Rudolph, who upon dying, was then rightfully succeeded by Louis IV with full support from the Franch nobility.

The obverse side of the medal displays a bust of Louis IV by Armand Caqué.

The reverse side of the medal is engraved with a short history of Louis IV.
