Three burglars plan to rob an isolated house. After the servants leave, given the night off, one burglar gains entry bearing a false letter which calls the husband away. Before he leaves the husband puts out a pistol for his wife's protection but the burglar removes the bullets. The husband departs in his chauffeur driven car leaving his wife (Marion Leonard) and three young daughters ( the eldest is played by Mary Pickford) alone. The burglars immediately break down the front door and the family retreats from room to room, barricading themselves as best they can. The husband's car breaks down and he telephones his wife and learns of her predicament. As they speak a burglar cuts the telephone wires further isolating the family. The car useless, the husband and a police officer commandeer a gypsy caravan and race to the rescue. The film then cross cuts between the racing caravan and the burglars breaking down the doors inside the house. The rescuers arrive just as the burglars are attacking the wife in front of her terrified children. <8mn 2s>
