Description:

The Governor General, the Earl of Athlone, arrives in Ottawa to assume his new position. In this newsreel clip, he is seen at Ottawa station with his wife, Princess Alice, greeting a line-up of military and civilian dignitaries. On Parliament Hill, he inspects a Guard of Honour. He enters the Parliament Bldgs. and then later outside makes a few versions of a speech (including one in French) inviting Canadians to fight against the menace threatening their civilization. Medium shot of the Governor General being addressed by a Guard of Honour soldier; he stoops to hear him better. Medium long shot of Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King, Right Honourable Raoul Dandurand, Senate leader and Princess Alice, outside the Parliament buildings. Long shot of the Governor General in ceremony in the House of Commons chamber. Long shot of a Canadian militia cavalry unit riding before the Governor General's limosine while admirers wave with enthusiam.
