Arrival of Field Marshal Viscount Montgomery of Alamein (Bernard Law Montgomery).~Don Fairbairn describes the scene from the Royal York Hotel where the parade has formed up to escort Field Marshal Montgomery to the official welcome at the City Hall.~Field Marshal Montgomery meets his escort at the entrance of the Royal York Hotel, taking the salute from the guard of honour. During his inspection the Field Marshal is joined by Major General Christopher Vokes and Lieutenant Colonel [Trum Warren].~Don Fairbairn continues to describe the scene as the Field Marshal completes his inspection of the guard of honour from Camp Borden.~The Field Marshal, accompanied by Major General Vokes, enters his open automobile and the procession heads towards the City Hall.~From Bay and King Streets, Bob Keston describes the scene as Field Marshal Montgomery heads towards the City Hall.~Bob Keston continues to follow the parade along Bay Street as ticker-tape floats down from the tall buildings and the sounds of the bands are heard.~Larry Henderson, speaking from the steps of the City Hall, picks up the parade as it nears Queen Street.~Field Marshal Montgomery arrives at the City Hall and is greeted by Mayor Saunders. The official party passes inside.~From the Council Chambers inside the City Hall, Elwood Glover describes the crowded scene as the arrival of the Field Marshal is anticipated. Montgomery signs the Visitor's Book in the Mayor's Office.~Field Marshal Montgomery arrives at the council chambers and "God Save the King" is played.~Mayor Saunders' official speech of welcome pays tribute to the Field Marshal's victories in Africa and Europe. He bestows the freedom of the City of Toronto on the Field Marshal.~The crowd in the council chambers raise three cheers for "Monty" and sings "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow".~Montgomery expresses his thanks for the warm welcome that the City of Toronto has extended and says that he has a very close association with Toronto since during the last war he always had regiments from Toronto under his command. He pays tribute to these fighting men. He expresses his thanks and says he hopes to return again.~Mayor Saunders presents the Field Marshal with a sterling silver tray.~Field Marshal Montgomery expresses thanks to the Mayor and the people of Toronto for this gift.~Elwood Glover describes the scene as the meeting adjourns in the council chambers of the City Hall.~Elwood Glover sums up the remainder of the activites during Field Marshal Montgomery's visit, including the acceptance of honorary degree at the University of Toronto, a visit to Parliament Buildings, and dinner at the King Edward Hotel.
