Jackson, longtime president of the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers union (UE), about his early career in the trade union movement. He begins with his work at the Thor Washing Machine Company in Toronto in 1935 and his friendship with a union organizer and member of the Communist Party. He continues with a discussion of his extensive Marxist readings and the lectures he gave on Marxism. Focusing on his career in the UE, he talks about organizing several plant in the late 1930s.
