Background details on would-be assassin, Mohemed Ali J'Acca, a Turkish national, are included in the report.~Northern Ireland. Greg Dobbs reports from Belfast about Francis Hughes the death-suicide by hunger victim, in Maze Prison. Sequences on the funeral services for Hughes and four others, victims of the violence which followed his death. Scenes of street-fighting, with fire-bombs and stones being thrown and on the accidental deaths of a milkman and his teenage son caught in the fighting, show the continuing struggle between I.R.A. and Protestant militants in North Ireland.~Lebanon. Tightening of Israeli-Syrian relations over Lebanese conflict. Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Bégin comments and the situation is illustrated with diagrams and footage of the fighting and of Syrian SAM anti-aircraft missiles, the cause of tension between Israel and Syria. U.S. State Department emissary, Philip Habib is seen arriving in Israel for peace talks with Prime Minister Bégin. David Ensor reports on the U.S. naval build-up in the Mediterranean. In a report by John McWethy in Lebanon the economic and social conditions of that country are portrayed.~French Elections. Commentary on French politics and government includes a review of the Constitutional leadership in France since Charles de Gaulle was elected to office; and examines the presidency of Valéry Giscard d'Estaing and the recent election of France's new Socialist President, François Mitterand. Pierre Salinger in Paris reports on the economic factors which led to the change in government.~Inflation. Canada's economic debate in the House of Commons, with excerpts of speeches by: John Crosbie, PC Finance Critic; Ed Broadbent, NDP leader; Allan MacEachen, Finance Minister; and Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. Doug Small presents a report on rising bank rates and other inflationary problems. Flora MacDonald, Joe Clark, House Speaker Jeann Sauvé, and others are heard.~Kangaroo Protection. Peter Charlie presents a report from Sydney, Australia on the history of kangaroo killing and the current move to enforce protective legislation following the lifting of the U.S. embargo on the import of kangaroo skins.
