Film showing the work of the Canadian Red Cross.~The film is introduced with footage of the facade of the soldiers' hospital on Christie Street in Toronto, Ontario and a large house belonging to the hospital. Patients are shown eating and being attended to by doctors and nurses; on the veranda of the house; playing games; talking; and one tuning in the radio. Patients are seen getting ready for a days outing to Toronto Island with Red Cross workers and nurses helping patients in wheelchairs, walking, and some on stretchers, into a truck.~Shown, too, is a Red Cross nursing class in session with a nurse instructor teaching women who are caring for family members at home how to care for a bedridden patient. They are shown how to make the patient comfortable in bed, help the patient sit in bed by wedging a pillow behind the patient's back, and fitting a bed-tray across the bed. The instructor places a small vase of flowers on the bed tray and serves the patient a meal. The patient smells the flowers and looks content.~The film moves to follow a trained Red Cross housekeeper leaving the Red Cross building on her first assignment. She arrives at the house she is to care for and knocks at the side door. Once at her assignment she is shown watching while the children of the house eat their breakfast. When they have finished she helps them with their coats before they leave for school.~Students from the Junior Red Cross Organization (formed in Canada in 1914 and later spreading to 32 other countries) in a classroom receiving instruction on how to conduct meetings; selecting leaders; speaking in public; and raising funds.~The final segment shows a settler followed by a Red Cross nurse portaging a canoe across bush country. They arrive at the settler's log cabin and the nurse is greeted by the mother of the child patient. After checking the child the nurse advises the father to get the doctor from the outpost hospital. The settler is shown leaving on the 24-hour journey to and from the hospital. The doctor arrives and examines the child. After consulting with the nurse, he suggests surgery. The nurse wraps the child in a blanket and they leave by canoe for the hospital. The doctor and settler paddle while the nurse carries the child in her arms. The party arrives at the hospital and the child is seen undergoing surgery in the operating room. The child is shown looking quite contented after the operation, sitting in bed with his father next to him holding flowers with the nurse and doctor at the bedside as well.
