The series consists of extensive manuscripts and typescripts of short stories, essays, and proposed books by Richard Taylor, as well as drafts for his manual Introduction to Cartooning (Watson-Guptill Inc., 1947). Most of the material is unpublished.

Included is an unfinished, unpublished autobiography, with chapters dealing with Taylor's childhood in Canada, his family and early influences (including the artist C.W. Jefferys), his early drawing and art lessons with Henry Britton, his studying at the Ontario College of Art, and his introduction to New York and The New Yorker. Taylor's interest in recounting his own experiences found expression in various forms, and there are also essays (including "Over the Border, or, Why I Left Home", "You're Poor if You're Funny - In Canada" and "Open Letter to Canadian Cartoonists") and what he called an imaginary autobiography, "Frodokum", which is an allegorical story of an artist in a fantasy setting. There are a number of writings on modern art, on religion (including a work co-authored with a friend, Stanley Lyon Houston) and a brief history of the world.

There are, as well, extensive files on works created in connection with Taylor's studio in Bethel, Connecticut, called Studio Graphica. These include pamphlets on various subjects (A Rule-of-Thumb for Selecting Friends, The World of Books, etc.) and material for a correspondence course of art instruction.
