Stanbury, Douglas, 1899-1980 : Baritone born in Toronto, Ontario, Douglas Stanbury studied music with his mother and with Otto Morando at the Canadian Academy of Music in Toronto. In 1921 he began a career as a professional singer in the United States, becoming the Capitol Theatre's first baritone soloist the following year. The artist also performed with the Chicago Civic Opera and the San Carlo Opera Company, and appeared often on radio, for example, in operas sponsored by Chase & Sanborn. He recorded a number of discs with companies such as Edison, Victor and Silvertone.
