Watercolours by Sir Daniel Wilson (1816-1892) during his travels throughout Canada and the upper United States, including views of native life, geological formations, major rivers and waterways, and landscape views of many unpopulated areas of northern Ontario and Quebec and New England. In Quebec: Ile d'Orleans, St. Lawrence River, and the Saguenay region; In Ontario: Sault Ste. Marie, Kingston, the Severn River, Sparrow Lake, the Michipicoten, the Nipigon River, Lake Superior, Thunder Bay, Current River, Amethyst River; in New England: Lake Champlain, Lake George, Bethlehem, N.H., Crawford Notch, North Conway, Saco, Lake Placid, and the following mountain ranges: the Adirondacks, the Cathedral Range, the Presidential Range, the Crawford Range, and the Green Mountains of Vermont.
Sir Daniel Wilson was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1816. After a career as an historian and writer, he became professor of literature at University College, in Toronto, and became the first president of the Royal Society of Canada.
President of the amalgamated University of Toronto in 1880. He was a well known and prolific scholar on native peoples, geology, paleontology, and archeology. He was a prolific author, with more than 80 titles to his credit. He is best known forcoining the phrase "pre-historic".

Acquired from family descendants in Scotland through a niece of the creator.
