Accession consists of one autographed first edition portfolio, entitled: "Bluenose II, The Last of the Tall Schooners. Measured Drawings by L.B. Jensen." Portfolio contains thirty-two plates of printed reproductions, and is dated 1975. This is number 332 of an edition limited to 1,000 copies. The reproductions are after original drawings by Commander (Ret'd.) Latham B. Jenson (b. 1921). In the late 1970's the artist was commissioned by Don J. Oland (of the Oland family, for whom the Bluenose II was built) to produce measured drawings of the vessel. Jenson is a veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy who saw duty during WWII on several vessels, and in various famous battles, remarkably surviving them. After the war he served on land in naval and military colleges, and again at sea commanding several vessels. When he retired from the navy he returned to his love of drawing, illustrating several well-known books about the history of Nova Scotia and its shipping heritage. Jenson served as Vice-President of the Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia and took part in the restorination of the Halifax waterfront. He was a member of the board of governors of the first Schooner Bluenose Foundation, served 22 years on the board of the Nova Scotia Museum, and was chairman of the advisory council of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. He was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada on January 27, 2004.
