Accession includes a journal entitled "A Month's Leave or the Cruise of the Breeze" dated 1863, describing a trip by ship around Lake Ontario. Journal is interleaved with drawings and watercolours, and has some on journal pages. The collection also includes loose drawings and watercolours; 2 photographs and 1 transcript of journal as supporting documentation. Journal and works of art by Lieutenant Henry E. Baines (1840-1866), Royal Artillery. Scenes include places in Quebec: Quebec City, Island of Orleans; Nova Scotia: Halifax; Ontario: map of Lake Ontario, Toronto, Black Island, Sheep Island (Pémédashcoutayong), Cobourg (artist was stationed here), Dundas, Consecou, Prince Edward, Nicholas Island,, Kingston, Cedar Island, Presqu'Ile, Black River, Picton, Wapoose Island/Cape Vesey, Niagara River; United States: Oswego, Sackett's Harbour, Putneyville, Soda's Point, Genesse; sailing vessels depicted include: The Breeze II, J.A. Macdonald, Zouave, Slug, Palivetto, Fruit Schooner the Aquila of Jersey, Glance, Arrow, Rivet, Wide-awake, Kitten, Gorilla (at Toronto Yacht Club), Paddle-wheel steamer.
