Sub-series consists of records of the proceedings of the Gaspé Land Commissioners who were appointed in 1819 to hear and determine all applications for grants of land by persons holding or claiming to hold lands in the Gaspé District. The Commissioners had power to hear and determine claims for grants "in the manner as might have been heard and determined by the Executive Council" of the Province. Included are reports, newspaper announcements, and a rough index to each volume. The fate of the Gaspé Land Board (established in the Province of Quebec in 1788) during the period of the Province of Lower Canada regime remains to be investigated, as does any relationship which may have existed between the activities of the Gaspé Land Commission and those the Gaspé Land Board.
