The fonds includes photos relating to the emigration to Canada of Hungarian refugees following the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and to their adjustment to Canadian life, 1957-1962; Janos Urge's identity cards, 1954-1959; his refugee service cards, 1956-1957; his certificate from the Canadian embassy, Austria, stating he was selected for emigration to Canada, 1957; his embarkation card and ticket for the Ascania, 1957; dictionaries used by refugees to learn English and French in Camp Wiener, Neustadt, Austria, 1956-1957; as well as other material, 1962-1982, relating to Urge's experiences as a refugee and the situation in Hungary at the time of the 1956 Revolution.

Urge, Janos, 1932- : Born in Hungary in 1932, Janos Urge fled his homeland after the Russian invasion during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. After a brief stay in refugee camps in Austria, he left for Canada. Arriving in 1957, he settled in Rimouski, Québec.
