Miska, Janos, 1932- : Né en Hongrie en 1932, Janos Miska a vu ses études en journalisme interrompues par la révolution hongroise, en 1956. Peu avant que la Hongrie n'abandonne ses efforts pour secouer le joug soviétique, M. Miska a fui en Autriche. Il y est resté seulement quelques mois avant de demander le droit d'entrer au Canada, où il est finalement arrivé en février 1957. Après un an de formation linguistique, il a entrepris des études à l'Université McMaster. Il en est ressorti avec un diplôme en bibliothéconomie en 1962.
De 1962 à 1991, M. Miska a travaillé comme bibliothécaire; il a terminé sa carrière à Agriculture Canada, où il coordonnait les bibliothèques de la région centrale du Canada. Durant ces années, il a produit et publié plus de 20 bibliographies dans le domaine de l'agriculture et les domaines connexes.
Parallèlement à sa carrière de bibliothécaire, M. Miska a également écrit et mené des recherches sur des sujets touchant la communauté hongroise ou les communautés ethniques en général. Sa bibliographie CANADIAN STUDIES ON HUNGARIANS, 1886-1996, publiée à Regina en 1987, a été suivie de suppléments en 1992, 1994 et 1995. M. Miska a aussi publié ETHNIC AND CANADIAN NATIVE LITERATURE: A BIBLIOGRAPHY en 1990 chez University of Toronto Press, suivie la même année de LITERATURE OF HUNGARIAN CANADIANS.
M. Miska a également joué le rôle de traducteur et rédacteur en chef. En 1966, il a ainsi publié à Winnipeg LEGJOBB ELBESZELESEK ANGOLBOL ("meilleures histoires anglaises"). Il a été l'instigateur de la création de l'association des auteurs hongro-canadiens, en 1968. Les trois premières anthologies d'auteurs hongro-canadiens (ANTOLOGIA) ont été publiées sous sa direction à Ottawa en 1969, 1970 et 1972. M. Miska a également préparé deux volumes réunissants les écrits d'auteurs Hongrois traduits en anglais : THE SOUND OF TIME (Lethbridge, 1974) et BLESSED HARBOURS (Toronto, 2002).
De 1983 à 1986, M. Miska a été rédacteur adjoint de NYUGATI MAGYARSAG, un mensuel publié en hongrois à Calgary; de 1994 à 1999, il a été rédacteur en chef de TAROGATO, autre mensuel en langue hongroise, publié celui-là à Vancouver. M. Miska a de plus écrit des nouvelles et des essais, dont EGY BOGRE TEJ: ELBESZELESEK ("une tasses de lait : nouvelle), publié en 1969 (Muenchen/Ottawa) et KANADABOL SZERETETTEL: VALOGATOTT IRASOK 1975-1985 ("bons baisers du Canada : oeuvres choisies de 1975 à 1985), un recueil d'essais publié à Ottawa en 1989. En reconnaissance de sa contribution à la communauté hongroise et à la société canadienne en général, M. Miska a reçu le prix albertain d'excellence en littérature (1978) et la Médaille d'argent du jubilé de la reine (1979).
