1 print woodcut.Language of material:EnglishScope and content:Fonds consists of watercolours by John Herbert Caddy as follows: Jackfish Bay, Lake Superior; S.S. "Quebec" Passing through the Channel between Port Arthur and Peninsula Harbour; Fort William and Hudson Bay Post. Fonds also consists of a woodcut by John Herbert Caddy entitled "Canada Great Western Railway" published in the January 21, 1854 issue of the Illustrated London News. An accompanying written description of London and the railway are included.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Caddy, John Herbert, 1801-1883 : John Herbert Caddy, (1801-1887) was born in Quebec City and later trained in art at the Royal Military Academy in Woolwich. He served with the British Army until 1841. He explored Central America, particularly Mayan sites, where he recorded some of his first drawings of that period. He retired on half pay in 1844, settling in London, Ontario. He was First City engineer in London, Ontario until 1851, when he moved his family to Hamilton, Ontario. In Hamilton he worked as an engineer with the Great Western Railway until 1856.
