The series documents the various festivals, workshops, and programmes established by CAN:BAIA to promote the work of black artists in Canada. The general files include a publicity poster for the First Lights Film Festival, an event showcasing the work of black Canadian filmmakers; correspondence, promotional material and reports relating to Dance Immersion, a programme consisting of workshops and performances led by artistic director Vivine Scarlett; documentation on Soulful Monday, a six-week membership and fundraising drive featuring black Canadian musicians performing at Berlin's, a popular club in Toronto; documentation on Griots Palaver, a series of literary readings and panel discussions by writers such as Lawrence Hill and Pauline E. Peters; documentation on Buddies in Bad Times Theatre and literary event held in conjunction with Sister Vision Press, featuring readings by Dionne Brand and Hazelle Palmer; documentation on Conversations, a weekly forum on issues facing African Canadian artists within the community; and correspondence, including letters from filmmakers Clement Virgo and Selina Williams, video recordings, publicity material and a report on Pelekeana (1995), a creative forms exchange between artists in Toronto and Vancouver.

The series also includes two sub-series: Celafi '92 and Celafi '97, both week-long festivals and conferences celebrating African identity through art.
