Hass talks about her childhood in a German settlement in the Valley. She remembers the family's large garden and well-stocked root cellar as well as the school Christmas concerts which included members of the community and parents of the students. She also talks of wanting to be a nurse, however her parent would not permit her to follow such a profession.
