Accession consists of radio broadcasts as well as interviews and commentaries prepared for broadcast by Montreal freelance broadcaster Kati Vita between 1959 and 1982. Most of the recordings are pre-broadcast, unedited or partially-edited interviews of nationally and internationally known figures, many from the world of music, dance and drama. Among the interviewees are violinist Ida Haendel, pianist John Newmark, actress Geneviève Bujold, jazz pianist Oscar Peterson, singer Gilles Vigneault, dancers Karen Kain and Frank Augustyn, Montreal Symphony Orchestra manager Denis Langelier, dancer-choreographer Brian Macdonald, writer Leonard Cohen, composer Serge Garant, arts administrator Donald MacSween, Dr. Henry Morgentaler, singer Joan Patenaude, Stratford Festival artistic director Robin Phillips, singer Joseph Rouleau, architect Moshe Safdie, singer Buffy Sainte-Marie, dancer Lynn Seymour and singer Jon Vickers. Accession also contains interviews of internationally-known figures who performed in Montreal, including folksingers Pete Seeger and Phil Ochs, jazz pianist Dave Brubeck, pianist Vladimir Ashkenazy, violinist Isaac Stern, singer Juliette Gréco, actresses Marlene Dietrich and Kathryn Grayson, comedians Dick Gregory and Bill Cosby, conductors Franz-Paul Decker and Charles Dutoît, and opera singer Luciano Pavarotti. Among the completed radio broadcasts are series about the history of song and documentaries about social issues such as anglophones in Quebec and the education system. The accession also includes interviews and coverage of international music competitions held in Montreal.
