Sub-series consists of records from a revised file classification system that is a continuation of the "200 Block" and is therefore quite similar in subject matter. Records of the two major Grants-in-Aid programmes such as those found in the old 214 block can now be found in blocks 7050-7059 (Sport Canada, both provincial and educational grants) and blocks 7250-7259 (Recreation Canada, grants to national organizations, provincial agencies, local agencies, universities, and for Participaction).
Records relating to the Olympics, including applications to host, the actual mechanics of hosting, the participation of Sport Canada in activities relating to the Games, Canadian Olympic Trials, care of athletes, and facilities are found in blocks 7070-7089. Of particular interest are 7075-7, Sport Canada Participation in Olympics - Moscow, 1980, which contain mainly correspondence from a variety of sources (private citizens, national sporting associations, athletes, politicians) regarding the pros and cons of the American-inspired boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics caused by the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Other international games and meets such as the Pan Am Games, the World Student Games, and the Commonwealth Games are covered under block 7100-7119, and cover the same kinds of material found in the Olympics block. Note that Canada has hosted the Pan Am Games in 1967 (Winnipeg), the Commonwealth Games in 1978 (Edmonton) and the World Student Games in 1983 (Edmonton).
Researchers may be interested in related files in the block dealing with liaison with provinces, other federal departments, national governments, national and professional organizations, (7032/E98-2) entitled Sport Canada Liaison - External Affairs, South Africa and Rhodesia Apartheid. This file includes a copy of the Gleneagles Agreement of 1977 relating to the treatment of South African sporting teams by the rest of the Commonwealth sporting world, and reaction to this Agreement, Canada's policies against supporting events in which South Africa was scheduled to participate, and the impact that these decisions had on the Commonwealth Games.
Many of Sport Canada's 7125-CODE case files are also preserved here. The CODE stand for each sport with which Fitness and Amateur Sport had regular contact (for example, EQUE for equestrian, HOCK for hockey, TTEN for Table Tennis). The files are further subdivided according to subject, i.e. 7125-CODE-1 for General, -2 for Annual Submission, -5 for Game Officials Development, and -11 for Agendas, Meetings, Minutes, etc.
Other noteworthy blocks of material include: 7065-5, Women in Sports, which includes an action plan for equal opportunities for women in sports, the Report of the the National Conference on Women in Sport in May 1974, and correspondence on Sport Canada's publication, For the Record: Canada's Greatest Women Athletes; 7320-7339, Recreation Canada - Indians, Inuits, Métis, which is broken down by province and arranged by native band or association; 7370-7379, the National Advisory Council on Fitness and Amateur Sport, including their organization and appointment of members, meeting minutes, estimates and budget, and activities of the four subcommittees of Recreation, Fitness, Sport and Executive; 7350-7359, Facilities, which often includes plans and diagrams of national training facilities supported by Fitness and Amateur Sport; and the entire block 7400-7499 for Research, Planning and Evaluation, including liaison, special projects, research contribution program, and the Canada Fitness Award.
The "7000 block", presently in use in the Branch, succeeded the older "200 Block" system in April 1979. The files are a conventional block numeric central registry, in the blocks 7000-7999.
