Collection consists of moving images documenting various subjects including agriculture and farming in Saskatchewan. Includes films from the Saskatchewan Department of Agriculture covering various activities at summer resorts, at the Saskatchewan Jubilee celebrations, and in Prince Albert National Park; Victory Loan campaigns during World War I, and a documentary on the history of western farmers from 1906 to 1939; silent footage shot in Saskatchewan and China by Richard Bird (1916-1926); selected out-takes from the films New horizons (1940), and By their own strength (1940); and two intermission trailers from the Skyview Theatre in Nipiwan, Saskatchewan, advertising local businesses, 1955-1960. Film titles include: Japanese artillery unit; Saskatoon sanatarium; Early farm machinery (1920); This generation: a prairie romance (1934); On the beam (ca. 1951); L'aiguilleur c'est vous; Pork consumer; Ham; Trade union; Castlegreen (ca. 1979); and Saskatchewan: faces, places and memories (1972).

Also included in collection are sound recordings documenting a variety of CBC and non-CBC radio recordings including music, drama, commercials, and public service announcements, as well as programs broadcast by radio station CKOM.

Collection also includes photographs documenting the arrival of Barr colonists, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and photographic portraits of Isaac M. Barr and associates, and Paul O. D'Esterhazy. Also included in original collection were photographs documenting barroom interiors of the Windsor Hotel, Saskatoon, Sask., and Zimmerman Hotel of Radisson, Sask.; the Indian Council, Assiniboines near Ft. Walsh, Prince Albert, Sask.; the lacrosse and hockey teams at Radville, Sask.; the entrance of Saskatchewan into Confederation, 1905; inauguration ceremonies; view of Regina; and unidentified portraits. These photographs were de-accessioned to the Saskatchewan Archives Board in July 2000.

In addition, collection includes a poster entitled Preserving the documentary heritage of Saskatchewan.

Saskatchewan Archives Board : The Saskatchewan Archives Board is a joint university/government agency that has the responsibility to oversee the activities of the Saskatchewan Archives, and appraise, acquire and preserve and provide access for documentary records regardless of media, from both private and public sources, relating to all aspects of the history of Saskatchewan. The Board was established and implemented in 1945 through the legislation written in the Archives Act. The Board provides for an arms-length relationship between the government and the Saskatchewan provincial archives, allowing it autonomous initiative, judgement and service in carrying out its mission and mandate. General note:

Material was received acquired between 1966 and 2002 from the Saskatchewan Archives Board. Photographic material in accessions 1967-145 (NPC) and 1966-129 (NPC) was de-accessioned and returned to the Saskatchewan Archives Board in July 2000.

Location of originals note:

Photographic material in accessions 1967-145 (NPC) and 1966-129 (NPC) were loaned to the National Archives of Canada for copying between 1966 and 1967. This material was copied and originals were returned to lender. In July 2000 all photograpic material in these accessions were de-accessioned and returned to the Saskatchewan Archives Board.
