Series consists of photographs depicting the life and works of William Kurelek. Photographs of his childhood and youth, the Kurelek and Huculak families at Whitford, Alta., and Stonewall, Man., 1927-1946; education at Victoria Public School and Isaac Newton High School, 1934-1946; studies at the Ontario College of Art, Toronto, and the School of Fine Arts, San Miguel, Mexico, 1946-1951; work as a lumberjack at La Tuque, Que., and Fraserdale, Ont., 1951; hospitalization at the Maudsley Hospital, London, England and the Netherne Hospital in Coulsdon, Surrey, 1952-1954; activity in London, England, including work as a labourer with the London Transport Commission, work as a picture framer with F.A. Pollack Limited, and membership in the Catholic Guild of Artists and Craftsmen, 1955-1959; travels in Europe and the Middle East, 1958-1959, and subsequent activities upon his return to Toronto, including his association with the Isaacs Gallery, wotk with the Catholic Information Centre, marriage to Jean Andrews, association with Madonna House at Cobermere, travels in Canada and Europe, and publication of the books "A Prairie Boy's Summer", "Kurelek's Canada", "A Northern Nativity", "The Last of the Arctic", "Jewish Life in Canada" are included.
The series also contains photographs of the unveiling of the painting "The Ukrainian Pioneer" in the Railway Committee Room of the House of Commons in Ottawa; Catherine Doherty, founder of Madonna House Apostolate, meeting Pope John Paul II, 1981; a group photo of the George Huculak family, 1979; Patricia Morely outside the Niagara Falls Art Gallery, 1983; and copies of Kurelek paintings "The Road", "The Ball of Twine and Other Nonsense", "Hauling Grain in Winter", " The Auction Sale", "Slaughtering the Pig".
Also included are photographs documenting the individuals associated with the life of the poet Leo Kennedy, and include Leo Kennedy's childhood home on Kirkdale Vale, Liverpool, England; homes of the Kennedy family in Montreal, Quebec, as well as individuals George Kennedy, Lillian Kennedy, Patricia Ann Kennedy, Dorothy Livesay, Maurice Needham, Frank Scott and Marian Scott.
