Fonds consists of moving images and audio recordings documenting a tribute to CBC radio news announcer Rex Loring on the occasion of the 20th anniversary broadcast of CBC's World report (formerly The world at eight); one program in the CBC television series Newsmagazine, including reports on trains in Canada; and three films entitled: the Avro jetliner; Are you safe at home; and Maps we live by.

Loring, Rex : Rex Loring was born in Southampton, England in 1924. He fought with the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. In 1947, at 23 years of age, Loring emigrated to Canada. While working as a sound-engineer for the National Film Board, Loring lip-synched 30 second of Field Marshal Montgomery's voice in an army training film. Encouraged to send out audition tapes to local broadcasters, Loring was immediately offered a job as CHEX in Peterborough. Later he worked in Ottawa, California, Montreal and Hamilton, joining the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in 1955. Loring is perhaps best known as announcer for CBC's news program, The world at eight, which began in 1968 as an off-shoot of CBC Radio's evening program. He retired from the CBC in 1990.
