The item is a journal of travels in Upper Canada and New York which is untitled and whose author is unknown. The author appears to have been well-connected and visited continental Europe during the Peninsular Wars. It was apparently written after the event and with an eye for publication. The journal contains observations on the manner of speech of the inhabitants, customs, and settlements in the colony. There is a considerable amount of detail on the War of 1812, including Sir Isaac Brock, and the battles of Queenston Heights and Lundy's Lane. The description of the journey ends on page 166 with no indication where, and the remaining pages consist of opinionated "cursory notes". Pages 97 to 116 are missing. Microfilmed in 1985.

The journal belonged to Charles Stanton (1860-1936) in London, England and later his son Philip Stanton Morgan (1899-1964).
