The series consists of files of research material on Canadian sculptors created by Lawrence Hayward, largely during the 1960s and 1970s, as part of his work on the Hayward Inventory of Canadian Sculptors. The material generally comprises copies of original documents Hayward located in various repositories and his notes, but included are a few original documents collected by Hayward. There are files on Walter Allward, J. Emile Brunet, Sylvia Daoust, Frederick A. Dunbar, Lionel Fosbery, Emanuel Hahn, Henri Hébert, Alfred Howell, Louis Jobin, Jacobine Jones, Alfred Laliberté, Frances Loring, Hamilton Plantaganet, Robert Tait McKenzie, Alexander Phimister Proctor, Lauréat Vallières, Katherine Wallis, Frederick Winkler, Florence Wyle and Elizabeth Wyn Wood, among other sculptors. The Frances Loring and Florence Wyle files contain original notes and other documents by Loring and Wyle, including a manuscript draft of a talk on art by Wyle.

The documentation in this series relates to the period 1879-1972.
