Walter begins with his experiences at sea as a cook in the late 1940s, first on lake boats then on deep-sea ships. He also discusses at length the 1949 strike by the CSU when his ship was struck by the CSU while in port at Liverpool, England. He recalls the great support the striking Canadian seamen received from the English longshoremen who refused to work Canadian ships and from residents and merchants in Liverpool who helped the strikers by offering shelter, food and money during the protracted strike. He also recalls speaking to various groups and factory unions in England on behalf of the CSU.Language:EnglishNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
