Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. English Services Division. Armed Forces Service : CBC service to the armed forces has been continuous since the end of WWII. One of the purposes of the CBC International Service which was established in February 1945 was to provide the Canadian armed forces abroad with news and entertainment from home. In 1954 a separate service known as the Armed Forces Service was organized to take over from the International Service. With the establishment of the CBC Northern Service in 1958 many of the armed forces radio stations in the North were transferred to it. From that point on the Armed Forces Service was mainly concerned with Canadian servicemen abroad. RG41 General Inventory
